Homeless woman charged after break-in at Fort Erie church

Niagara Regional Police charged a 45-year-old woman with mischief after a church administrator found her asleep upstairs near the office of a Fort Erie church Saturday morning.

Officers were called to Garrison Road Church at 1351 Garrison Road at about 8 a.m. Saturday for a report of an unwanted person on the property, police said.

The woman, who has no fixed address, broke a window sometime overnight between Friday and Saturday, according to police. She was charged with mischief under $5,000.

Nothing was stolen from the church and police reported no other damage to the building.

The church said in a social media post that the person entered after damaging a glass door.

Police said no one else took part in the incident.

The woman was held for a bail hearing that took place later in the day Saturday.
