‘The best team in Fort Erie’: The Mez officially opens on Garrison Road

A new bar and grill has opened its doors on Garrison Road, and Fort Erie’s mayor and local politicians turned out July 3 to cut the ribbon.

The Mez replaced the former Wing HQ storefront at 1267 Garrison Road, where owner Ramez Takawy has been serving customers for several weeks before the official ceremony.

The menu centres on comfort food–smashed beef burgers, bone-in and boneless wings and fresh-cut fries–with prices starting at $5.99 for a basket of fries, according to the restaurant’s posted menu.

Takawy wrote in a June post on the restaurant’s Facebook page that The Mez went from an idea to opening its doors in about three months, with the team spending its first week adjusting recipes, training staff and fixing what did not work.

Takawy thanked residents during the grand opening celebration July 3.

“Thank you for the warm Fort Erie support…and thanks to the best team in Fort Erie, thank you all from my heart,” said Takawy.

MPP Wayne Gates attended the grand opening–along with Mayor Wayne Redekop and several councillors–and wished the new restaurant his best.

“You always know when a business is going to be successful. You got great staff,” said Gates.

The Mez joins a wave of new storefronts in town, with roughly 200 businesses opening in Greater Fort Erie between the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and July 2026, according to the Town of Fort Erie, however, 20 to 30 of those did not survive.

The Mez serves daily from noon to 10 p.m., according to its website.
