CAA asks residents to vote for Niagara’s worst road by April 17

Sider Road on the edge of Stevensville topped Niagara’s 2025 Worst Roads list and even placed eighth in Ontario. The CAA campaign is back for 2026, with nominations open until April 17 for roads across the region.

The annual Canadian Automobile Association Worst Roads campaign invites residents to nominate roads across Ontario that need repair, placing local complaints into a public list that municipal and provincial officials review.

The campaign opened March 24 and accepts nominations online, where participants can identify specific problem areas such as potholes, cracks, congestion or poor signage. Submissions can include intersections or entire road segments.

Last year’s Niagara results placed Sider Road, a rural route between Bowen and College roads, at the top of the regional list for two years in a row and eighth across Ontario. The road sits on the outskirts of Stevensville and carries relatively low traffic as a Class 6 municipal road.

The town grades the surface a minimum of three times a year and applies dust control as needed, with additional work completed when conditions worsen.

Other roads that ranked highly in Niagara in 2025 included Portage Road in Niagara Falls, which has appeared on the list for several years, and Miller Road in Port Colborne, which is undergoing phased reconstruction and widening.

CAA data shows widespread concern about road conditions across Ontario. Survey results indicate that 88 per cent of respondents cite cracks in pavement as a major issue, while 87 per cent identify potholes as a key concern. Uneven surfaces and congestion also rank high among complaints.

The campaign aims to direct attention to infrastructure gaps by collecting public input and forwarding results to decision-makers. Previous lists have led to repair projects and budget allocations across municipalities.

Nominations remain open until April 17 through the CAA Worst Roads website. Results for Niagara and the province are expected later this year, after submissions are compiled and ranked.
