If you’re looking to add a four-legged family member to your household, the Fort Erie SPCA currently has 26 animals available, including dogs, cats, rabbits and smaller pets such as rats and a guinea pig.
Cottontail, a one-year-old dwarf mix rabbit, is described by the shelter as a sassy boy, with a cute face to make up for it.
Two rabbit listings involve bonded pairs. Little Ears and Big Ears are two-year-old dwarf rabbit sisters described by the shelter as playful and sweet. Daisy and Maisy are playful three-year-old Holland Lop rabbits.
With Easter approaching, rescues warn that rabbits are long-term indoor pets with lifespans of about 10 years that need daily care and gentle handling, since many get stressed by being picked up and are not a good fit for small children seeking a cuddly gift.

Five dog listings are available at the SPCA, including Periodt, a nine-week-old female shepherd mix puppy the shelter describes as affectionate, playful and loving.
Another listing features Daisy and Nikki, a mother and daughter pair listed as shepherd mixes aged two and four. The shelter describes the two as sweet but a little timid and says they are very attached to each other, with a preference that they be adopted together.
Nikki has tested heartworm positive, while Daisy has not, though the shelter recommends Daisy receive another test in six months.

Other dogs listed include Chester, a nine-month-old hound mix, Augustine, a five-year-old German shepherd cross, and Onyx, a three-and-a-half-year-old Dogo Argentino.
Eight cats are also listed for adoption.
Trevor, a seven-month-old domestic short hair cat, is very shy at first meeting and likely to hide, though the shelter says he grows affectionate once comfortable and enjoys being pet. Staff note he also does well with other cats.
The other cats listed are Sirius, Bubbi, Biter, Penelope, Stella, Picasso and Autumn, with ages ranging from under a year to about 12 years old.
Smaller pets are also available, including Benny, an eight-month-old guinea pig. Benny is a little nervous at first but allows people to hold and pet him. He would sit on his previous owner’s shoulders while they watched television.

Six one-year-old female rats named Squeaky, Willow, Minnie, Penelope, Lily and Daisy are also listed and each is looking for a permanent home.
All adoption fees include spay-neuter, core vaccinations, current deworming, and a six-week trial of pet insurance. Adoptions also come with a free month’s supply of food.
Adoption fees are $650 for puppies, $599 for dogs, $325 for kittens, $275 for cats, $175 for rabbits and $45 for pocket pets.
Adoption applications are available at forteriespca.ca.
