Lane closures, alternating traffic to slow Niagara through Friday

Fort Erie commuters will face a series of lane reductions and maintenance projects on regional highways from Tuesday through Friday.

Ontario 511 says a construction project will reduce the westbound lanes of Highway 405 to one alternating lane between the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and Stanley Avenue in Niagara‑on‑the‑Lake. The closure starts just after midnight Tuesday and is scheduled to end late Friday night.

On the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), two maintenance crews will be working in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines. One left lane on the Toronto‑bound QEW will be closed between Glendale Avenue and Welland Avenue starting Tuesday at about 9 a.m. and lasting until Friday afternoon.

Another left lane will be closed on the Fort Erie‑bound QEW between Thorold Stone Road and Highway 420 in Niagara Falls during the same hours.

Several Highway 406 projects are scheduled. A southbound lane between the QEW and Highway 58 in St. Catharines will be reduced to one alternating lane from 7 p.m. each night until around 8 a.m. the next morning, continuing through Saturday.

Northbound traffic faces alternating lane closures between Decew Road and Sir Isaac Brock Way in Thorold; a daytime closure runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, followed by an overnight closure from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Another maintenance job will close the left lane on northbound Highway 406 between Geneva Street and Fourth Avenue in St. Catharines from mid‑morning Tuesday until mid‑afternoon Friday, and a separate construction zone between Third Avenue and the QEW will limit northbound traffic to one alternating lane from 8 a.m. Tuesday until about 4 p.m. Friday.

Highway 58 in Thorold will see a shorter disruption. Ontario 511 notes that a left lane on the northbound lanes through the Thorold Tunnel will be closed between about 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday for construction.
