The Town of Fort Erie is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer student employment program, offering paid work across multiple municipal departments and locations throughout the community.
In a post shared on the town’s Facebook page last week, municipal officials encouraged students to apply for a range of seasonal roles in areas such as parks, beaches, museums, administration and infrastructure services.
Applications must be submitted by noon on Monday, March 2.
Details posted on the Town of Fort Erie’s employment website show successful applicants can expect work terms beginning as early as April 15 and running as late as Oct. 15, depending on the position. Each role has a defined duration, and students are expected to be available for the full length of their assigned contract, which may include weekends and holidays.
The hourly wage for summer students is set at $20.62, plus four per cent vacation pay, and students are eligible to enrol in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System pension plan, according to the job posting.
Positions are available across several departments. The town is hiring approximately eight beach students to work at Bay Beach in Crystal Beach, where duties include customer service, facility cleaning and general site maintenance. About 15 students will be hired for parks, cemeteries and horticulture roles, supporting landscaping, sports fields and cemetery operations using a mix of hand and power tools.
Other opportunities include museum attendants at sites such as the Fort Erie Historical Museum, Railway Museum and Battle of Ridgeway National Historic Site; water, wastewater and stormwater services students who will assist with infrastructure maintenance and hydrant painting; and single positions in engineering administration and fire and emergency services, both focused on office and operational support.
To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in secondary school, college or university. The town limits students to six periods of summer employment, and returning students receive preference in the selection process, though the town notes a random element is also used in assessments.
Students may apply for more than one department through a single application on the town’s website. Interviews will be conducted for selected candidates, and the hiring process may include practical assessments and background checks.
The town says summer student employment offers young residents a chance to gain hands-on experience while contributing to municipal services in one of Niagara’s fastest-growing communities.
Full job descriptions and application instructions are available through the Town of Fort Erie’s website.
