Happy Days animal sanctuary seeking volunteers

A Stevensville-based animal rescue is in need of volunteers who can help at its property.
Happy Days Sanctuary, founded in 2016, received its charitable status in 2018 and has been fostering animals at its large rural property on Burger Road near the Welland border.
They currently have five volunteers but are asking more to come forward.
“The more volunteers we have, the less of a load it is for the ones we already have,” founder Ann Swinson told Fort Erie Radio in an interview.
The main responsibilities are cleaning litter and feeding the nearly 80 cats the organization has at its site.
Socializing with the animals is also part of what volunteers do, typically at 9 a.m. and at 5 p.m. throughout the week.
Happy Days isn’t set up to accommodate dogs at the moment, but people who visit can also assist with goats and chickens, she said.
The rescue also recently took in three Canada geese.
Donations come in many forms, such as fundraisers held by families, organizations, and businesses.
“It’s not a lot of money but it all adds up,” said Swinson.
They do not receive any government or grant funding.
Happy Days will also have a presence at this Saturday’s Dog Day Afternoon event at the Fort Erie Conservation Club, talking about everything they do and also collecting donations.
