Fort Erie drivers enjoy a holiday break from roadwork

Fort Erie commuters looking forward to a week of family gatherings and holiday sales should find fewer construction headaches on local highways between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Ontario 511 lists no scheduled lane or ramp closures in Niagara between Friday, December 26, and Thursday, January 1. That means the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and other provincial routes near Fort Erie will operate without the recurring construction and engineering investigations that marked much of the fall.

Recent projects on the QEW between Mountain Road and Netherby Road, on the Highway 58 corridor in Thorold and on the Highway 140 link to Port Colborne all wrapped up before the holidays.

Even the long‑term lane reduction on the QEW between Ridgemount and Concession roads ended earlier this month.

There are also no scheduled maintenance closures on Highway 405 or Highway 3.

Motorists should still watch for typical winter hazards such as blowing snow or icy pavement.
