Fort Erie commuters face more lane reductions and closures this week

Ontario 511 is warning Fort Erie motorists about a handful of lane reductions and ramp closures that could slow traffic for Fort Erie commuters this week.

The long‑running construction project on the Highway 406 northbound on‑ramp at Woodlawn Road in Welland continues to restrict traffic to a single alternating lane. Ontario 511 says the ramp will stay narrowed until Friday evening as crews wrap up work.

The Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) off‑ramp at Bertie Street/Thompson Road in Fort Erie has reopened to traffic after a complete closure last week, but only one lane is available. The ramp will remain reduced until early December as part of a longer reconstruction project.

Drivers heading toward Toronto should also be prepared for an overnight lane closure in Niagara Falls. Ontario 511 reports a maintenance project will close one left lane on the Toronto‑bound QEW between Thorold Stone Road and Mountain Road on Tuesday night. The lane is expected to reopen by early Wednesday morning.

Motorists should consult the Ontario 511 website for the most up‑to‑date road information.
