Hayride tradition brings families together in Stevensville

The free autumn hayride rolled through Stevensville on Saturday, drawing families out to enjoy pleasant seasonal weather.

The annual event, organized by The Village Church, has run for over two decades and typically draws more than 100 people.

With tractors pulling wagons through the village, the hayride has become a fall tradition in Stevensville residents.

“It’s free for the whole community. It’s just a good way to get the fall kicked off and we offer free apple cider and popcorn and everything,” said Dan Desilest, pastor at the church behind the hayride.

This year’s gathering was part of a busy weekend in Stevensville, including the annual fall fair and a 100th anniversary celebration at Station 5 on Stevensville Road.

The hayride has grown steadily over the years.

“The last couple of years we even added a fourth wagon because we were getting quite a bit of turnout,” Desilest told Fort Erie Radio at the event.

The fourth wagon was not quite full at 3:30 p.m. when tractors left the Stevensville branch of the Fort Erie Public Library beside the church, leading Desilest to suggest they may return to three wagons next year.
