The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is joining the fight against hunger next week.
May 13, 2024, will see the start of their fourth annual week-long ‘Spring Forward’ food drive. Officers of the Community Oriented Response and Engagement Unit (CORE) will be setting up at locations across Niagara and collecting both cash and non-perishable food donations.
After three years, the drive has has collected 51,044 lbs. in food and $35,113.45 in cash and gift card donations.
This year, 10 different food banks will be receiving donations.

Those hoping to donate will find officers stationed at Jesse & Kelly’s No Frills (1135 Thompson Rd.) in Fort Erie from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday. The beneficiary of all donations collected in Fort Erie will be Salvation Army Community & Family Services located at 255 Gilmore Road.
While many food drives center on the holiday season, a news release from NRPS states that this effort has been “designed to combat food insecurity that challenges the community throughout the year.”
