The Town of Fort Erie marked the official opening of the new playground at AC Douglas Park on River Trail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month.
The project replaced the existing playground while retaining its well-known red dragon, which now features a refreshed design as part of a castle-inspired theme.
According to the town’s website, the redevelopment was designed to encourage imaginative play and to enhance accessibility and comfort for visitors.
Improvements to the site include a fully accessible pathway from the road to the playground, an inclusive playground ramp, engineered wood fibre surfacing and newly planted shade trees.

Mayor Wayne Redekop, Ward 6 Councillor Ann-Marie Noyes, town staff and community members participated in the opening ceremony, which also included the planting of a tree donated by Silver Leaf Nursery, the Town of Fort Erie said in a Thursday post on Facebook.
The Kinette Club of Stevensville, the Stevensville Firefighters Association and organizers of the annual Stevensville Springfest also contributed three canopy benches that are expected to be installed later this fall, the post said.
The project began in late May. During construction, access to the park’s tennis courts was maintained through an alternate entrance.
