Unseasonably warm weather hits Fort Erie

Fort Erie is experiencing an unexpected surge in temperatures this week, with the daily high reaching 11.7°C yesterday. This unseasonably warm weather marks a departure from typical February averages, where daily lows hover around -7°C and daily highs around 0°C.

While Thursday’s warmth was notable, it did not break historical records for the warmest February 8th in Fort Erie. Just five years ago, on February 8, 2019, temperatures soared to 15°C. The warmest February 8th ever recorded saw temperatures reach a staggering 17.2°C.

On February 24, 2017, the daily high reached 19°C, making it the warmest February day recorded in Fort Erie’s history.

This warmer spell is offering a brief respite from the typical February chill and a potential hint of spring to come.

Today’s forecast calls for another high of 11°C and tomorrow a high of 8°C. Temperatures will move closer to the seasonal average next week.
