Town seeking project manager and part-time solicitor

The Town of Fort Erie is currently hiring for two positions.

PROJECT MANAGER, DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERING

The successful candidate will support the development approval process by providing essential engineering and technical support.

The role ensures that new developments comply with Town requirements and involves managing engineering construction works for site plans and condominium developments.

Candidates must have a university degree in civil engineering or a three-year college diploma in civil engineering technology (CET), or equivalent education and experience. A professional engineer or CET designation with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists is required.

At least five years of experience in the development approval process and municipal engineering is essential, along with applied technical knowledge of land use planning, development legislation, and proficiency in specialized engineering software.

The project manager will prepare development engineering comments for pre-consultation meetings and planning applications, perform detailed reviews of engineering submissions, and identify required engineering work.

Other responsibilities include preparing conditions of approval for planning applications, reviewing draft agreements, and providing clearance on engineering-related conditions.

Monitoring and inspecting site works to ensure compliance with Town requirements, conducting field reviews, and liaising with various stakeholders are other key responsibilities.

Compensation includes an annual salary of $100,240 to $120,288 based on a 37.5-hour work week, along with a comprehensive health, benefit, and pension package.

The deadline for applications is 12 p.m. on August 15.

SOLICITOR

The position will report to the chief administrative officer and coordinate the activities of the legal and legislative services staff.

This role involves providing comprehensive legal advice to council and corporation staff, serving as the primary contact for all legal communications, and offering strategic and operational advice to senior managers.

Responsibilities include negotiating, drafting, reviewing, and approving by-laws, contracts, leases, and other legal documents, as well as executing agreements on behalf of the corporation.

Candidates must hold a bachelor of law degree or equivalent, have completed the Ontario Bar Association admission course, and be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

The role requires three years of experience in leading prosecutions and representing both plaintiffs and defendants, with experience appearing before courts and quasi-judicial bodies, particularly the Ontario Municipal Board.

Strong skills in legal research, drafting, negotiation, mediation, and litigation are essential.

The successful candidate will manage various legal matters, including planning and land issues, real estate transactions, and public highway matters. They will also represent the Town in courts and tribunals, conduct legal research, prepare reports, and stay current with statutory and regulatory changes.

The position is part-time, offers benefits, and is primarily self-directed, with opportunities for remote work.

Interested candidates should apply by noon on August 14.
