The Black Piano is a ‘comfortable’ place to shop on Jarvis Street

The Black Piano is a new store on Jarvis Street that offers a blend of new, vintage, and antique items ranging from glassware to clothing and art.

Anna Morlachetti previously operated the store in downtown Ridgeway before relocating to Jarvis Street.

Although she still owns the Ridge Road building where she initially set up shop, she decided to lease it to Rookleys Canadian Art, a fine art gallery she was delighted to play a role in welcoming to the community.

She said there is something for everyone at her store, offering products priced as low as 50 cents and as high as $9,500.

“My goal is to make people feel comfortable when they come in,” she told Fort Erie Radio in an interview a few days after a recent grand opening celebration.

“I don’t want anyone to feel they’re out of their element shopping here,” she added.

Morlachetti said she’s proud to carry work of artists like Robert Buick and David Drum.

She’s also excited to be part of a revitalization of Jarvis Street, an area of Greater Fort Erie that has “completely turned itself around” with several new businesses opening in recent history.

Many of those who stopped by her grand opening congratulated her on the new location.

“They were all so pleased to see I took a chance on Jarvis,” she said.

Morlachetti also said her store, even though it has expensive pieces, is “not a museum” and that it’s okay if people want to touch an item as they consider buying it.

Located at 24 Jarvis Street, the store is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
