The Neon Crab Street Art Competition is back and registration is open to established, aspiring and emerging artists alike.

The competition will be just one part of Arts, Beats & Eats in Bridgeburg, a one-day event featuring live music, food trucks, vendors, and more exciting activities on Saturday, August 10.

Will Graham, owner and operator of Neon Crab Tattoos & Piercing located at 42 Jarvis Street, told Fort Erie Radio that 20 artists will have from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. to create a six foot by six foot piece of art.

He encouraged anyone interested to register as soon as possible by emailing will@neoncrab.ca with “Street Painter” in the subject line.

It is free to register and the final day to do so is July 15, 2024.

“You don’t need to be intimidated. If you’ve never done chalk art before, it doesn’t really matter what your skill level is. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have. All the materials are provided,” he said. “There will be support, and there’s even a workshop that will be held the night before.”

Graham said he first participated in a street art competition in London, Ontario around 15 years ago.

“I went out that first year and I had such a blast. I absolute fell in love,” he said. “I’ve been doing it ever since.”

He said participating in the show was a great way for artists to market themselves, adding that he enjoys the “public performance aspect of it.”

There will be prizes and trophies awarded.
