Six hundred crocheted poppies now cover two public sites in Stevensville as residents honour veterans ahead of Remembrance Day.
Local resident Linda Ruffley led the creation of 600 handmade poppies to honour her relatives, Stewart and Stan Ruffley, and other veterans who served Canada.
The project was made possible by a crochet group at Black Creek Leisure Homes and the Kinette Club of Stevensville, who spent weeks crafting all 600 poppies.
“This project is a labour of love,” said Linda Ruffley in a news release. “The handcrafted displays serve as a visual reminder for passersby of the sacrifices made by generations of Canadians and as an invitation for residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and remember.”

The two outdoor poppy displays can be found outside at Stevensville Memory Park and Black Creek Leisure Homes community centre.
“The handcrafted displays serve as a visual reminder for passersby of the sacrifices made by generations of Canadians and as an invitation for residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and remember,” said Stephanie Freeman, co-chair of the Kinette Club of Stevensville, in the same release.
Freeman encourages community members to visit the installations and to honour those who served and continue to serve in Canada.
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at Stevensville Memorial Hall at 2 p.m. on November 11.
