Ridgeway crash downs hydro pole, sends two to hospital

A two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning knocked down a hydro pole and sent a 48-year-old Fort Erie woman to hospital after another driver failed to yield at the intersection of Dominion Road and Centralia Avenue.

Niagara Regional Police told Fort Erie Radio the collision remains under investigation, but early indications suggest a vehicle was eastbound on Dominion Road when a northbound vehicle on Centralia Avenue failed to yield the right of way while entering Dominion Road.

Police received the call at 11:25 a.m.

Both vehicles had only one occupant. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 34-year-old Fort Erie man, was charged with failing to yield the right of way under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Fort Erie man and the 48-year-old Fort Erie woman suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

Hydro crews attended the scene to deal with the downed wires.

The area was closed for cleanup and repairs but police said they expected the road to reopen Tuesday afternoon.
