Fort Erie Meteors goaltender Finn Moffett has signed a Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League contract with the Gatineau Olympiques and has left the team after Christmas, following a standout first half of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) season.
The 18-year-old from St. Catharines departs with the Meteors near the top of the GOHL standings, forcing a quick roster adjustment as the trade deadline approaches.
Gatineau contacted the Meteors about two weeks before Christmas and allowed Moffett to remain with the club through the final games before the break.
“That’s what we’re here for at the end of the day,” Anthony Passero, associate head coach, told Fort Erie Radio. “We want to win, but at the same time, we want these guys to move up.”

Moffett started 21 games this season, winning 15 of them, and was among the league leaders in goals against and save percentage after taking over as the team’s starting goalie.
“His impact can’t really be explained,” said Passero. “I think he was one of, if not the best goalie in the league. Once he figured it out, he really took over the league.”
The Meteors currently have Ryan Schultz in net and are looking to add another goaltender before the January 10 trade deadline.
The team has also added 17-year-old forward Gage Brandon, who arrived from British Columbia this week after playing in the British Columbia Hockey League and is now on the ice with the team ahead of a January stretch heavy with road games.
