Free holiday skates return thanks to generous community sponsors

Fort Erie residents will have several chances to hit the ice for free over the holiday season, thanks to a series of sponsored public skates announced by the Town of Fort Erie.

According to a Facebook post from the town, multiple free skates are scheduled between December 22 and January 2, with local schools, community groups and organizations covering the cost so families can skate at no charge.

The holiday free skate schedule includes:

December 22 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. @ Kinsmen rink // Greater Fort Erie Secondary School
December 23 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. @ Jaycee rink // Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre
December 29 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. @ Jaycee rink // Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre
December 30 | 2 to 3:30 p.m. @ Kinsmen rink // Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee
January 2 | 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. @ Crystal Ridge Arena // Greater Fort Erie Secondary School

The Kinsmen and Jaycee rinks are both located inside the Fort Erie Leisureplex.

In addition to the holiday dates, the town noted that free public skating is also offered every Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at Crystal Ridge Arena.

Those weekly skates are sponsored by the Ridgeway Lions and run until March 24.
