A Fort Erie event dedicated to open conversation about suicide and overdose prevention is returning October 3 and has vendor tables available for $20.
We Gotta Talk, now in its second year, gathers mental health and addiction service providers under one roof so Fort Erie residents can ask questions and connect with local organizations. The event will be run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Erie Leisureplex banquet hall. Vendors must carry their own liability insurance.
Organizer Russ Young told Fort Erie Radio he got a seven-month head start on planning this year’s We Gotta Talk event, compared to just 12 weeks last year.
“Please don’t judge the event by sad subject matter–it will surprise you,” said Young.

The lineup already includes Brock University psychotherapy professor Tony Volk, who researches bullying, and Shyanne Jenkins from Indigenous Health Services.
Pharmacist Sarah Deleuleuw will demonstrate Narcan administration and walk attendees through reading prescription inserts.
“Every single person is welcoming and willing to talk,” said Young.
Therapy Tails, a comfort-dog program, will also be on site.
Last year more service providers showed up than people seeking help, Young said. Several harm reduction workers spent the day connecting with one another.
Attendees can also enter a share-the-wealth draw, where prize money is split between the winner and the event to help cover costs.
Vendors and speakers can register at wegottatalk@gmail.com.
