Fort Erie Race Track about to kick off its 127th season

Fort Erie Race Track is set to kick off its 127th season with an action-packed day of thoroughbred racing, food, and entertainment tomorrow, May 28.

The event will feature a nine-race program, headlined by the Sprint Into Summer Cup and the Summer Solstice Cup, both with $30,000 purses.

80 horses are scheduled to race on opening day, with the first race starting at 4:30 p.m. The highlight of the day will be the biggest field of 10 horses competing in the eighth race.

James Culic, the track’s corporate communications manager, expressed excitement about the quality of this year’s races.

“We have one of our best opening day cards in years,” said Culic. “Not only do we have nine races, but each race features full-size fields with eight, nine, and even a 10-horse race.”

After the final race, around 7:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy a free concert by one of Niagara’s hottest bands, Revive the Rose.

Food trucks will be on site, offering a variety of delicious meals.

The first 2,000 people to purchase a program will receive a free t-shirt featuring a brand new design. Additionally, the popular kids’ shirts will be back in stock.

Admission and parking for the event, located at 230 Catherine Street, are free.

Fort Erie Race Track’s 2024 schedule includes 40 race dates, with most events on Mondays and Tuesdays. The exceptions are four special Sunday programs:

  • June 16: Father’s Day
  • July 7: Fort Foodie Fest
  • July 21: Wiener Dog Races
  • August 18: Corgi and Basset Hound Races

This season also marks the 89th Prince of Wales Stakes, scheduled for September 10.
