Fort Erie man charged in Norfolk County drug trafficking investigation

A 42-year-old Fort Erie man has been charged following an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) drug trafficking investigation in Norfolk County.

The OPP’s Norfolk and Haldimand Community Street Crime Unit arrested the man Tuesday at about 12:15 p.m. in Tillsonburg, Ont., according to a news release.

Police said he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by the Niagara Regional Police Service.

Officers seized suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, Canadian currency and drug-related paraphernalia.

The man is charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin), and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 in Canada, says the release.

He was held in custody and scheduled for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Wednesday.
