Fort Erie Healthcare SOS to sound alarm at Ontario Federation of Labour conference

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), alongside Niagara Region workers and community leaders, will hold a media conference today at 11:00 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Niagara Falls. This event precedes the Ontario Progressive Conservative policy conference.

Organizers claim that Premier Doug Ford’s government policies have burdened working-class people across the province, making life more difficult and expensive. Speakers at the conference will delve into the impact of these alleged “failed policies.”

Several prominent figures are slated to speak, including Laura Walton, OFL President; JP Hornick, President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU); and Heather Kelley of Fort Erie Healthcare SOS.

Kelley will address the controversial overnight closure of Douglas Memorial Hospital in July 2023. In a Facebook video posted last week, she told followers, “We still have a long way to go to save our healthcare.”

Local MPP Wayne Gates is also expected to attend.

Beyond the media conference, the OFL is hosting a rally on Saturday, February 3, at 12:00 p.m. outside the Niagara Falls Convention Centre under the banner: “Corruption, closures, and cost-of-living crisis.”

The Ontario Federation of Labour represents over 50 unions and nearly one million workers in Ontario, making it the largest provincial labour federation in Canada.
