Fort Erie drivers get a reprieve as construction pauses

Fort Erie commuters will start the new year without any planned lane, ramp or road closures on the main provincial highways through the Niagara region.

Ontario 511’s roadwork listings show no scheduled construction or maintenance on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), Highway 405, Highway 406, Highway 58, Highway 140 or Highway 3 between Monday and Friday.

That means drivers travelling between Fort Erie and St. Catharines or Hamilton can expect traffic to flow normally without overnight lane reductions or ramp closures.

Many of the major projects that affected Fort Erie drivers last year wrapped up before Christmas.

Long‑running work on the QEW between Ridgemount Road and Concession Road in Fort Erie ended in early December, and lane reductions near Mountain Road in Niagara Falls and at the Thorold Stone Road off‑ramp concluded before the holidays.

With no new projects scheduled for the first full week of January, the region’s highways should remain free of construction delays.

Although there are no planned work zones this week, snow and freezing rain can still cause slippery conditions and motorists are advised to drive accordingly.
