A 72-year-old Welland woman was taken to an out-of-region hospital after a pickup truck crossed into her lane and struck her van head-on in Fort Erie on Sunday evening, Niagara Regional Police say.
The truck’s driver, a 38-year-old Fort Erie man, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Police say the woman’s injuries were later determined to be non-life-threatening.
The collision happened at about 6:25 p.m. on Netherby Road between Townline Road and Winger Road, police told Fort Erie Radio. The eastbound truck lost control and ended up in the westbound lane, where it collided with the woman’s van.
The woman was the only person in the van. The truck’s driver reported no injuries.
Police closed Netherby Road between Townline and Winger roads while the service’s collision reconstruction unit examined the scene. The road reopened after investigators confirmed the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.
