Fort Erie barista wins district in Starbucks barista championship

A Fort Erie barista is on the way to the next round after winning the Niagara district competition in Starbucks’ first-ever North American Barista Championship.

Scooter Sousa, who works at Starbucks (644 Garrison Rd.) in Fort Erie, impressed judges during the March competition held in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Sousa’s next competition will be in April, facing off against other district champions to showcase skills in crafting classic Starbucks beverages and presenting a unique signature drink.

This multi-stage competition recognizes baristas who embody Starbucks’ commitment to quality, connection, and craft. Over 15,000 baristas across the US and Canada are participating.

With a potential international title and a trip to Starbucks’ Costa Rican coffee farm on the line, Sousa will be aiming to brew another winning cup.
