Fall Fest added to Thanksgiving weekend celebrations in Crystal Beach

Even though tourist season in Crystal Beach slows down considerably after Labour Day, a tradition on Thanksgiving weekend is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this time around.

The Crystal Beach 5K started in 2004 and has become a popular event for casual participants, as well as seasoned runners who travel to various meets. It will take place Saturday, October 12, but there is plenty more going on along Erie Road throughout the weekend.

It’s the Crystal Beach Fall Fest, which will take place October 12 to 14 with live music at the Grove, a recently created outdoor stage on Erie Road, made possible by the Crystal Beach BIA.

The 5K races for adults and kids will start things off Saturday morning, but a charity barbecue will get fired up at 1 p.m., followed by performances from the Feverish Lemons from 2 to 5 p.m. and the Blackstones from 6 to 9 p.m.

There will be a farmers’ market Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., food trucks, and music from Blake Halladay.

Food trucks open Monday at noon and Xprime will hit the stage from 2 to 5 p.m.

Robin Bannerman, owner-operator of the Crystal Ball Cafe and Crystal Beach BIA board member, said it’s all about staying “relevant” in the months that are not as busy as the summer.

She said Crystal Beach is a special place that doesn’t need much promotion in July and August.

“But when people come here, they feel something,” she said, adding the village has an “interesting vibe and energy” with lots to offer.
