Derby Road closing Sunday for bike shop customer appreciation day

Motorcycle riders in Crystal Beach will take over part of Derby Road on Sunday as a longtime Niagara bike shop closes the street for its first show-and-shine at its new home.
Derby Road will be closed to vehicles from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Queens Circle and a point just before Lincoln Road West, the Town of Fort Erie said in a notice.
The closure makes room for Tons of Bike Gear, a motorcycle apparel shop that moved to 34 Queens Circle in June, to line the street with bikes for a customer appreciation day.
The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. The shop says all bikes are welcome and is promising hotdogs, prizes and a street display.
Tons of Bike Gear operated for 16 years out of St. Anns under owners Ed and Lillian, who closed that store in May when Ed retired.
New owners John and Melanie Rodrigue bought the business and reopened it in Crystal Beach on June 12. Melanie Rodrigue also owns Sugar Palm Spa on Garrison Road in Fort Erie.
A town meeting record from July 17 shows council supported the appreciation weekend of August 15-16 and encouraged other Crystal Beach retailers to take part.
Drivers will need to find another route around Derby Road until it reopens at 5 p.m. Sunday.
