A driver struck a utility pole near Gilmore Road and Ellen Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, cutting power to about 1,200 Canadian Niagara Power customers in south Fort Erie.
The utility said the collision happened at about 4:40 p.m. and knocked out service in the Gilmore Road and Niagara Boulevard area. Crews restored power to most customers by about 7 p.m., but full restoration took until 10:10 p.m.
The crash damaged a utility pole, said Andrea Celone, FortisOntario’s manager of customer experience and communications, in a statement to Fort Erie Radio on behalf of Canadian Niagara Power.
Crews responded to assess the damage, complete repairs and restore service, said Celone.
Niagara Regional Police said they have no record of a collision on Gilmore Road that evening, but police did respond to a separate crash involving a hydro pole in Fort Erie the same night.
A vehicle struck a hydro pole on Michener Road near Cherry Hill Boulevard at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, damaging hydro wires, constable Jessica Martin told Fort Erie Radio. No injuries were reported.
Police arrested the Michener Road driver for impaired operation, said Martin.
