Community Living Fort Erie (CLFE) is expanding its presence in town by taking over a new space.
The organization has already started to move in and work out of 1200 Thompson Road, a former Niagara Regional Police station and later a real estate office and law office.
This is the first time in CLFE’s decades-long existence that it has added an additional building for administrative staff, said Sheldon Samlall, the organization’s new manager of community development and engagement.
Samlall is taking over for Margaret Fidler when she retires after 40 years at the end of September.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” he told Fort Erie Radio in an interview.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on September 11 with invited guests and local dignitaries.
It will serve as a headquarters for CLFE’s transitional age youth program where high-school aged clients are assisted with general life skills and entering the workforce.
There will also be space for CLFE staff who are “in and out of the office a lot,” needing a space to work on documentation and other responsibilities related to their jobs.
Samlall said “minor” details like setting up cubicles is ongoing at the moment, and that the space will be “ready to go” in full by the time the ribbon cutting ceremony is held.
CLFE’s other office building at 615 Industrial Drive will remain open and continue to operate.
