Circle of Art showcases Greater Fort Erie’s creative talent

The amount of artistic talent in Greater Fort Erie is something worth celebrating.

This was the opinion shared by Mayor Wayne Redekop at the annual Circle of Art event hosted by Friends of Crystal Beach (FOCB), started in 2015 and growing strong ever since, despite a two-year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a lot of work to get all of these artists to come out and display their work,” Redekop told Fort Erie Radio, carrying a raffle prize he won at the gathering at Queen’s Circle.

Crystal Beach historian and photographer Rick Doan was soaking in the creativity of the occasion as a customer and spectator.

“It’s a wonderful event and it’s great they have it every year,” Doan told Fort Erie Radio.

Lead co-ordinator and FOCB member Gayle Martineau said the Circle of Art event showcases that summer is in “full swing” when it is hosted each year, an occasion that brought out about 50 vendors this time around.

She also said “a lot of people headed to the beach” appeared to be stopping by to see what the large crowd of more than 200 people was doing Saturday at about 11 a.m.

Susan Gleeson has lived in Fort Erie her entire life but moved to Ridgeway about three years ago.

One of her acrylic paintings is of downtown Ridgeway during the winter season.

“It’s such a pretty street,” said Gleeson, added there is a lot of beauty in a “small-paced town.”

Gleeson, an artist for about 25 years, said she had made a number of sales less than two hours into Saturday’s event, and that she was honoured to be in the company of so many talented people.

“There’s a lot of artists in this area, and it’s nice to see the diverse work of everyone,” she said.
