Close to 60 people “made a big dent” in a spring cleanup of the north end on the weekend by collecting 900 lbs. of garbage and yard waste.
That’s according to Korinne Antaya, a local shop owner and vice-chair of the Bridgeburg BIA.
Community members and other merchants took part, as well as students from Fort Erie International Academy (FEIA), including their boys and girls hockey teams.

Volunteers cleaned Jarvis Street, alleyways and other streets in the neighborhood, as well as along the river, said Antaya.
“The turnout was much better than expected,” she told Fort Erie Radio on Sunday.
Antaya, the owner of The Fox Shop, supplied refreshments for everyone who helped out, while Kendale Products provided food, as did Waffle Bandits.

Antaya said she was impressed by the politeness of the FEIA students and how eager they were to help.
“They were very happy to be out doing it,” she said.
The Bridgeburg BIA will host its Easter celebration on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jarvis Street.
