Bittersweet memories made on FEIA senior night

Last night was senior night for both the Fort Erie International Academy (FEIA) Red Falcons men’s and FEIA Falcons women’s teams. In celebration of this, the coaches provided each player with shoes, flowers, and an in-game photo of them in a frame.

Before the games commenced, each player took pictures with their coaches and family members.

To start off the night at 5 p.m., the FEIA Falcons women’s team tipped off against Niagara Prep. This game did not turn out as many in attendance had expected; the Falcons lost by three points in overtime. The decision to count a post-final buzzer layup was thought by some to be a perfect example of poor and biased officiating throughout the match.

Anastasija Veljovic came out hot for FEIA, scoring a fast eight points before leaving on concussion protocol. Kamora Morgan then stepped up and led the women’s senior squad with 23 points.

For Niagara Prep, Jordyn Wheeler had an outstanding performance, putting up a double-double: 33 points alongside 15 rebounds. Wheeler was nothing if not effective at helping her team upset the Falcons.

This game was a battle throughout but in the end, the Falcons lost the match 90-87.

The men’s game followed, which resulted in a win for the Red Falcons. They took on the Ridley College Tigers and made sure to handle business.

Red Falcons star Ishan Sharma had an impressive 42 points, including 13 three-pointers. Sharma, a University of Virginia commit, is living up to his reputation as one of the best ballers out of Canada.

Brayden Jackson had 21 points and Felix Kossaras had 16 points; much of the game’s scoring was spread across the senior men, helping make this a memorable victory for many.

Senior night was sponsored by Osmow’s, who catered for both teams after the games. The coaches, players, and families had speeches prepared. It made for a meaningful night both on and off the court.

Looking ahead, the FEIA Falcons women’s team needs to prepare for playoffs and bounce back after this unexpected loss. The men’s team, on the other hand, is on a high as they hope to get their full roster back before playoff time is officially here.
