Bay Beach safe for swimming after being flagged last week

Bay Beach is no longer flagged as a place where swimmers should not enter the water.
The popular tourist spot, also known as Crystal Beach, was previously considered unsafe for swimming due to E. coli levels, as recently as last week. But as of Saturday, it is good to go again.
That’s according to Niagara Region Public Health’s latest beach testing results.
Bay Beach, Crescent Beach, and Waverly Beach were all considered unsafe on July 8. Bernard Avenue Beach was also considered safe at that time after its most recent test on July 10.
According to public health guidelines, water is considered unsafe for swimming when bacteria levels exceed thresholds that increase the risk of illness, such as stomach cramps, diarrhea and skin infections.
Testing is conducted regularly throughout the summer at public beaches across the region. Water conditions can change quickly due to weather, wave activity, wildlife, and other factors.
The region advises swimmers to check recent test results before entering the water.
Beachgoers are encouraged to check the region’s website, which is advertised on signage at public beaches in Fort Erie.
