Movie night being hosted Saturday at fire station no. 3

Local families have a chance to watch a movie at a unique venue on Saturday night.

At Fire Station no. 3, ‘Mufasa: Lion King’ will be screened outdoors at 8 p.m., an event hosted by the East Bertie Volunteer Firefighters Association.

Popcorn and drinks are free, says a Facebook page about the event.

Darryl Garner, treasurer for the firefighters association, told Fort Erie Radio that the event is a way to give back to residents, doing more than playing a role in public safety.

“The community knows we’re here to help and serve them when they need us, but we want them to know we’re there other times as well,” he said.

The association tries to hold at least one event per year. A vendor fair, as well as a car wash and barbecue have been held in the past.

For many years, an annual Ribfest was held at the station, but that no longer takes place.

“We tried to find something to fill that void,” he said.

Events like Saturday’s movie night are funded by bingo revenues.

While the firefighters won’t be soliciting donations, anything collected will benefit a local charity, he said, noting that previous groups to receive donations from the association have been Community Outreach Program Erie, breakfast clubs at local schools, and the Kinmen Club’s Gift of Love toy drive at Christmas.

Fire Station no. 3 is located at 1015 Dominion Road.
