Costumed interpreters will tell stories of War of 1812 beer rations inside Old Fort Erie later this month, as the former battleground opens after hours for a new craft beer tasting night.
Niagara Parks will stage “History on Tap” in partnership with Niagara College on Saturday, October 24, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Niagara Parks’ culinary team will prepare a historically inspired dish to go with each drink, such as a Three Sisters stew of corn, beans and squash.
Niagara College’s teaching brewery in Niagara-on-the-Lake first released Butler’s Bitter in 2012 for the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. For this event only, the ale’s cans will bear its original 2012 commemorative label.
Niagara College hospitality and events manager Amanda Baldinelli said in a news release that the evening gives the college’s students more practical experience working with guests.
Guests will also see black-powder demonstrations and hear live music from Celtic rock band The O’Deadly’s.
Tickets are available at niagaraparks.com and cost $90. Only people 19 and older can attend.
Niagara Parks had a similar event scheduled at Old Fort Erie in August called “A Shot of History,” but had to cancel it just days before it was set to take place.
