Town-wide power outage scheduled in Fort Erie for July 26

Canadian Niagara Power (CNP) has scheduled a town-wide power outage in Fort Erie, including Ridgeway, Crystal Beach and Stevensville, for July 26.

The planned outage will begin at 2 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 30 minutes, according to a media release issued by CNP on July 10.

According to the release, the interruption is necessary to reconfigure the electricity supply system in preparation for an upgrade to the transmission network via CNP’s international power line (IPL).

A second planned outage is scheduled to take place on September 14, during the same early-morning time window, in order to restore the default system configuration.

“In an effort to minimize the inconvenience, we have scheduled times we believe to be the least disruptive to our customers,” said Kristine Carmichael, CNP’s director of corporate and customer services.

“We are pleased that we were able to minimize what would have been numerous outages of lengthy durations to only two, thirty-minute outages by utilizing the IPL, similar to what was done in 2023.”

CNP says updates will be shared on the company’s Facebook and Twitter/X accounts.

Residents can also contact CNP at (905) 871-0330 or visit cnpower.com for more information.
