Bay Beach has been deemed unsafe for swimming following recent water testing, according to reporting from Niagara Region Public Health.
Testing conducted on Thursday found elevated levels of E. coli at the beach, located at 4155 Erie Road.
According to public health guidelines, water is considered unsafe for swimming when bacteria levels exceed thresholds that increase the risk of illness, such as stomach cramps, diarrhea and skin infections.
Three other public beaches in Greater Fort Erie–Crescent Beach, Bernard Avenue Beach and Waverly Beach–were all found to be safe for swimming as of June 17.
Niagara Region Public Health monitors public beaches regularly and updates water quality reports as new data become available.
