Fort Erie residents among five charged in Norfolk County drug investigation

Two Fort Erie residents are among five individuals facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a Simcoe residence on Friday.

The OPP’s Norfolk/Haldimand Community Street Crime Unit searched a home on Talbot Street North, seizing a quantity of illicit drugs, weapons and cash. Police arrested five individuals without incident.

A 41-year-old man from Fort Erie has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

A 42-year-old woman from Fort Erie has been charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of cocaine.

Three others from Norfolk County were also charged with multiple offences related to drug trafficking and weapons possession.

All accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests may follow.

Inspector Andy Tait, detachment commander for Norfolk County OPP, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in combating drug-related crime in a news release.

“Our Community Street Crimes Unit has been very effective with proactive illicit drug investigations,” he said.

“This is yet another example that highlights how the police and the community continue to work in partnership to resolve crime,” Tait added.
