Wanted Venezuelan man denied entry at Fort Erie border

A Venezuelan man wanted in the United States for attempted murder was denied entry into Canada at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Fort Erie on Saturday, leading to his arrest by U.S. authorities.

After being refused entry into Canada, the 27-year-old was subsequently encountered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the primary inspection area in Buffalo, N.Y.

According to a news release, a routine check revealed an active felony arrest warrant issued by the City of Aurora Police Department in Colorado. The charges include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

CBP officers detained the individual and transferred him to a secondary examination area for further investigation. His identity was verified, and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado confirmed the active warrants, says the release.

Following the verification process, CBP officers took him into custody and handed him over to the Buffalo Police Department. He is currently being held by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office as a fugitive from justice, awaiting extradition to Colorado.
