Decades-long Christmas tradition returning to Ridgeway this week

Most storefronts in downtown Ridgeway will be offering their “own little pocket of Christmas cheer” next weekend.

That’s according to Sarah Chevalier, owner of Lasting Impressions, and one of the volunteering business owners who is getting involved.

At her store, she will have a “window reveal,” meaning her windows will be covered in paper on Thursday before it is taken down when the Christmas on the Ridge celebration kicks off Friday and continues on until Saturday.

A longstanding tradition on Ridge Road, also known as the Spirit of Christmas, the event kicks off Friday night with a tree-lighting ceremony at Ridgeway Village Square, followed by Christmas carols at 4:45 p.m. performed by students from St. Philomena and St. George Catholic elementary schools, as well as John Brant Public School.

Friday night businesses will be holding their own special celebrations, such as handing out popcorn and hosting bonfires, among other things.

The road will be closed again Saturday for a Christmas market, said Chevalier.

Trailside Bar and Grill will have part of their establishment decked out with a pop-up photo “Santa is Watching” photo booth, said Chevalier.

Asked about the importance of the decades-long holiday gathering, Chevalier agreed that it is an ideal opportunity to draw people to the area and its shops.

“Its huge brand awareness for the businesses,” she said.
