Town of Fort Erie needs to fill two roads operator positions

The Town of Fort Erie is seeking two individuals to serve as roads operators, one on a full-time basis and the other for a casual position starting in December and ending next March.

Both positions are listed on the town’s website with applications being accepted until November 12.

Duties and responsibilities include safely performing physical labour in the installation, maintenance and repair of municipal roads, shoulders, sidewalks, roadside drainage facilities and appurtenances including, but not limited to:

  • patching
  • rebuilding manholes
  • ditching
  • building and replacing catch basins
  • installing and replacing driveway culverts and headwalls
  • removing litter and debris from roadways
  • installing and removing snow fences
  • and performing winter operations and maintenance activities.

Using power tools and performing minor maintenance to them as well as vehicles are skills needed, among others.

High school diplomas are a requirement, as well as an additional road construction and operations program of up to six months or equivalent, reads the job postings.

Applicants should have one year of previous experience in road maintenance and repair, as well as an Ontario driver’s licence with DZ endorsement or higher with an acceptable driving record.
