Matty Matheson invited The Bear cast and crew to ‘hang out’ in Fort Erie

Matty Matheson says he is “incredibly privileged” to be involved with ‘The Bear’, a critically-acclaimed TV show that broke its own record at Sunday’s 76th annual Emmy Awards.

It won in 11 categories, the most ever for a comedy series, one more win than what the show on FX brought home in hardware the previous year.

The Fort Erie resident is a producer and has been part of the show’s recipe when it comes to details of the restaurant business being incorporated into scripts.

In his first-ever acting role, he plays handyman Neil Fak, a recurring character.

The show is set and shot in Chicago, a city that reminds Matheson of Buffalo, N.Y., a place he has visited often, growing up in the border town across the Niagara River.

“I think Buffalo is a beautiful working-class city, and I think Chicago is, too,” he said in a phone interview with Fort Erie Radio while in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Matheson posted on social media how excited he was to attend last weekend’s Emmys with his wife Trish, his high school sweetheart and now wife with whom he has three children.

While accepting the award for best lead actor in a comedy series last Sunday, Jeremy Allen White said he hopes the cast and crew from ‘The Bear’ are in each others’ lives forever.

Matheson said he feels the same way and that he is seriously open to everyone from the show making the trip to Fort Erie to eat at Rizzo’s House of Parm and set up tents at his rural Ridgeway property.

“I’ve definitely put that offer out multiple times for the cast and crew to come visit the farm and hang out,” he told Fort Erie Radio. “It’s only an hour flight from Buffalo to Chicago.”

Matheson, 42, is a graduate of Lakeshore Catholic High School in Port Colborne. He also attended Garrison Road Public School in Fort Erie in his elementary years.

His first job in the culinary field, while still in high school, was Southsides Bar and Grill. And about 10 years ago, while working with VICE, Matheson took his dear friend and culinary mentor Master Rang to Robo Mart to let him try a chicken finger sub.

On October 22, Matheson’s third cookbook, ‘Soups, Salads, Sandwiches’, will be available for purchase.
