Premier Doug Ford scheduled to attend 40-year celebration at Airbus on Friday

Airbus has been in flight for 40 years and will host a celebration on Friday to mark this milestone.

The helicopter manufacturing company built its first Canadian facility in Fort Erie and is considered “the leading provider of helicopters that support communities, save lives and protect Canadians through law enforcement, emergency medical services, energy, firefighting, search and rescue, private and business transport, and aerial work,” reads a news release.

Friday’s event will welcome Premier Doug Ford, as well as Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade Vic Fedeli.

From its first helicopter site built in 1984, Airbus, formerly Eurocopter, has grown to employ over 4,500 employees across 10 plants in the country, reads the news release issued Wednesday.

Recent accomplishments of Airbus can be found on the company’s website.

Chartright Air Group, a leading provider of private aviation services in Canada, has taken delivery of Canada’s first corporate ACH160, built by Airbus.

This was the first ACH160 to be delivered in North America.

Earlier this year, Niagara Helicopters, the Niagara Falls-based tourism company that provides helicopter rides, ordered six new vessels from Airbus.

The company’s in-service fleet includes about 12,000 helicopters operated by more than 3,010 customers in 152 countries.

The Fort Erie plant on Gilmore Road employs about 250 people, says the company’s website.

Key operators of Airbus helicopters in Canada include the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.
