Two suspects arrested in Crescent Park following Niagara Falls robbery

Two suspects, including a 14-year-old male, were arrested in Crescent Park on August 14 following a coordinated police operation involving multiple by Niagara Regional Police (NRPS) units.

The arrests were linked to a robbery that occurred in Niagara Falls the day before.

On August 13 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a robbery took place on Portage Road near Fallsview Boulevard in Niagara Falls.

The victim, an adult male, was riding an electric scooter when he was approached by two males driving a stolen vehicle. The suspects allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the victim and stole his scooter before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Following the incident, warrants were issued for both suspects, and 2 District detectives took charge of the investigation.

On August 14 at around 5:20 p.m., police executed a coordinated operation around a residential property located on Ferndale Avenue near Edgewood Avenue. The operation involved 2 District Detectives, the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) unit, the Emergency Task Unit (ETU), and uniform officers from both 2 and 5 Districts.

The two suspects, a 22-year-old from St. Catharines and a 14-year-old male, attempted to flee the residence on foot but were apprehended without incident. During the arrest, police found a concealed and loaded .25 calibre handgun with 24 rounds of ammunition.

At 1 a.m. on August 15, 2 District detectives obtained a search warrant and entered the residence on Ferndale Avenue. Police recovered items stolen during the robbery that took place on August 13.

The 22-year-old male was charged with multiple firearm-related offences, including carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence, and possession of a loaded regulated firearm.

The 14-year-old male, whose identity has not been released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with robbery with a firearm.

Both suspects were held in custody pending a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines yesterday.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
