The award, which is the highest honour in governmental budgeting, commends the Region’s financial management and planning for meeting stringent standards for effective budget communication.

“Once again, the Region’s finance team has demonstrated that they surpass industry best practices by receiving this award for exemplary budget reporting,” said Dan Carnegie, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.

“This is a great achievement and an example of the dedication, hard work and collaborative spirit that staff and elected officials have here at Niagara Region.”

The Region’s budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications tool.

Meanwhile, Niagara residents may face a significant property tax increase in 2025. Staff have proposed an 8.72 per cent hike, a substantial jump from the 7.02 per cent increase implemented this year.

The recommendation was presented to the budget committee last Thursday, chaired by Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop.
