Fall branch pickup returns to Fort Erie curbs until November 20

Niagara Region crews started picking up tree branches at Fort Erie curbs Monday, but they will take only tied bundles of limbs no thicker than seven centimetres.

The fall collection continues until November 20 for single-family homes and apartment buildings with six or fewer units, the Region says.

Residents must tie branches into bundles with string or twine. Each bundle can weigh up to 22.7 kilograms (50 pounds) and measure up to 1.5 metres long and half a metre across.

Bundles must reach the curb by 7 a.m. on the household’s regular collection day. The Region allows residents to put them out after 5 p.m. the night before.

Crews may collect branches separately from green bin organics, so bundles could still sit at the curb after the green bin is emptied.

Fort Erie residents can take larger limbs to the waste depot at 1300 Bridge Street. The Region accepts oversized branches at its depots free of charge all year.

Stumps wider than 46 centimetres (18 inches) will carry a disposal fee.

The Bridge Street depot opens weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., although the Region is advising residents to avoid Saturdays when its depots are usually busiest.

Residents can find their collection day in the Niagara Region Waste app or on the Region’s website.
