A 62-year-old Stevensville man faces three firearms charges after a 54-year-old man arrived at the Douglas Memorial urgent care centre with a gunshot wound, Niagara Regional Police say.
Officers who met the victim at the clinic traced the shooting to a home on Fox Road. Police sent the force’s Emergency Task Unit to the address on Monday afternoon and arrested a suspect without incident.
The accused is charged with assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent to wound and possessing a firearm without a licence.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse at 59 Church Street in St. Catharines.
Police have not said how badly the victim was hurt or whether the two men knew each other.
Detectives with the 5 District Criminal Investigative Branch are handling the case.
They ask anyone with information to call Niagara Regional Police at (905) 688-4111, or to contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara anonymously at (800) 222-8477.
