Town hiring summer student for fire department at $20.62 an hour

The Town of Fort Erie is hiring a summer student to support its fire department, one of three municipal jobs the town posted this month, with applications due at noon on June 23.

The summer student in fire and emergency services will provide administrative support and customer service at the Central Fire Station, along with data entry, deliveries and cleaning. Students enrolled in secondary school, college or university qualify for the seasonal job, which lasts from roughly July to September.

The position offers $20.62 an hour plus four per cent vacation pay. The successful candidate may also enrol in the OMERS pension plan.

Returning students who have worked for the town before receive preference over new applicants, and a random element factors into the selection of the rest. The town limits students to six periods of summer employment.

The town is also hiring a part-time administrative assistant in planning, building and by-law services to process building permit applications, coordinate inspections and answer enquiries from the public. The role also greets visitors and supports building and by-law staff.

The successful candidate will report to the chief building officer or the manager of by-law services and earn a starting rate of $31.66 an hour for 30 hours a week. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on June 25.

The third opening, manager of water and wastewater services, will direct strategic planning, daily operations and staff across the town’s water, wastewater and stormwater division. The successful candidate will serve as the Overall Responsible Operator, a provincial role that holds one certified person legally accountable for the safety of Fort Erie’s drinking water.

The position offers an annual salary between $124,985.35 and $149,982.42, plus a comprehensive health, benefit and pension package. The town has not posted a public deadline to apply.
